Visiting Pig Beach Exuma is one of the most exciting things to do in the Bahamas. Each day, hundreds of tourists come from Nassau to Pig Beach by ferry, speed boat, and even by plane to see the wonderful Exuma pigs.
Before your trip to Pig Beach Exuma
Here are some bits of information to know before your vacation to Pig Beach Exuma to make your experience more knowledgeable:
Where is Pig Beach Bahamas?
Exuma Pig Beach is located in the southern half of the Bahamas known as the Exuma Cays. It is due north of Staniel Cay, nearly within swimming distance and definitely if you are a strong swimmer, on the island of Big Major Cay.

Pig Beach Bahamas is home to 25 Exuma pigs.
Pig Beach Exuma is the most popular beach on the island and it won’t be hard to find, especially in the tourists’ high season, because of the hordes of boats surrounding the coast. See our map of where Pig Island is located.
How to get to Pig Beach
On your Exuma pig tour from Nassau, you will likely cross through some of the most serene nature in the Bahamas. Nassau to Pig Beach takes only thirty minutes depending on how you travel but we prefer to fly. The flight provides magnificent overhead views of what astronauts have referred to as the most beautiful region on Earth from space.
The Bahamas charter will fly from Nassau International Airport to Staniel Cay. From there, you will be transported to a water taxi and taken to Pig Beach Exuma within ten minutes. It is the easiest and most convenient way to get to the Bahamas pigs.
Why is it called Pig Beach Exuma?
Several tales have made their way around the rumor mill in the Exumas as to how Pig Beach Bahamas came to be. The most likely scenario is that villagers on Staniel Cay put in complaints about the lousy smell coming from a farmer’s livestock near the village, forcing the farmer to relocate his pigs.
Once moved to (what is now called) Pig Beach, he would bring the pigs’ daily feed over by boat every afternoon. Noticing the pattern, the pigs began to swim out to the boat when it came to be the first ones fed.
Soon enough, the farmer realized the potential of this and the attraction was born. Pig Beach Exuma would never be the same.

There are Pig Beach Exuma tours running from Nassau every day.
How to interact with the Exuma pigs
You must make sure you are following the few rules on your Pig Beach Bahamas tour. Here are a few basic guidelines:
1. Only feed to pigs approved foods (most of the time provided with the tour)
2. Never feed the pigs by hand. Rather, toss the food next to the pig.
3. Always feed the Exuma pigs from the boat rather than on the beach.
4. Don’t intimidate or tease the pigs in the Bahamas.
That’s it! Follow these rules and you will have a nice visit to Pig Beach Exuma.
